The GCRMN is tasked by national governments, United Nations agencies, international NGOs and marine institutes to promote monitoring of the coral reefs of the world. The aim is to raise awareness on their current status and provide data to assist resource managers in coral reef conservation. The GCRMN is maintained by the Australian Institute of Marine Science drawing on our experience in monitoring in cooperation with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coral Health and Monitoring Program and in association with WorldFish Center (ICLARM) in Penang.
